Hollywood Breakups & Divorce

Posted in Celebrity Divorce tagged at 9:17 am by demetriagraves

While the rumors are running thick and fast about a potential break-up between Demi Moore & Ashton Kutcher. Apparently another one of Hollywood’s couples have announced their intention to divorce. “X-Men” star James Marsden, who is best known for his role as “Cyclops” and his wife Lisa Linde are divorcing, after more than a decade of marriage.

Linde filed for divorce recently and cited irreconcilable differences in court documents. Linde is seeking spousal support and joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s two young children Jack and Mary.

According to Marsden’s representative, “This was a mutual decision, they are committed to raising their kids together and remain great friends.”

Marsden, 38, married Linde, daughter of country songwriter Dennis Linde (who penned Elvis Presley’s 1972 hit, Burning Love), in July 2000.

Demi Moore’s marital woes seem to be gaining a lot of media attention, the past weeks have been littered with reports of infidelity, isolation, hurt feelings and photos of a supposed San Diego mistress. But through everything, the pair have remained almost silent. Kutcher, 33, is said to have gone wild in San Diego at a tech convention on the weekend of his sixth wedding anniversary to Moore, 48. There are even suggestions that on the same weekend, Kutcher enjoyed the company of not one but two women at the San Diego Hard Rock Hotel.

We’ll have to see how this one plays out, perhaps there will be another Hollywood divorce in the not too distant future.

Cost of Being a Celebrity Cheater

Posted in Celebrity Divorce tagged at 5:49 am by demetriagraves

I have often featured articles about celebrity break-ups and divorce. Often the cause of these break-ups has been cheating. So what is the cost of being a celebrity cheater and does this have implications for the average person? Certainly infidelity changes things emotionally, where what might have been a divorce in which people had a little bit of trust and didn’t feel like they had to turn over every rock, when there’s infidelity they don’t trust anything and are much more aggressive in looking at areas to investigate.

The division of assets – bank accounts, homes, cars, etc. – is just the beginning. You can lose your kids, and there’s no price tag for that. Plus if you’re a celebrity you can lose your livelihood and your endorsements if you have a clause in your contract that holds you to a higher standard. Studios and ball teams don’t want to be embarrassed.

Here’s a look at some well-known celebrity cheaters and how they fared after the divorce:

Donald and Ivana: Trumps Are Wild
The celebrity cheater: Donald Trump, New York real estate tycoon.
The other woman: Marla Maples, Georgia beauty queen and aspiring actress.
What was gained: Maples became a celebrity and bankable Broadway actress thanks to her high-profile relationship with the real estate mogul from 1988 until Trump divorced first wife Ivana in 1992. Trump and Maples married and had daughter Tiffany (not in that order) the following year, separated in 1997 and divorced in 1999. Maples received $2 million as part of a prenuptial agreement, plus child support.
In the bigger picture, the media heat that surrounded the affair arguably elevated Trump’s public profile from prickly multimillionaire to enduring celebrity, paving the way for the 2004 debut of “The Apprentice,” his successful reality TV franchise. Ivana launched her own empire, which includes fashion, jewelry, cosmetics, bestselling novels and a reality show, “Ivana Young Man.”
What it cost: Divorcing Ivana cost Donald a rumored $20 million, the couple’s $14 million Connecticut estate, half of their Mar-a-Lago manse in Florida, $350,000 annual spousal support and child support for their three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric.

Tiger and Elin Woods Finish in The Rough
The celebrity cheater: Tiger Woods, high-profile professional golfer.
The other woman: Numerous.
What was gained: Zip. Zilch. Nada. There have been no winners and plenty of losers since Thanksgiving 2009, when Woods backed his SUV badly out of his Orlando, Florida, mansion and straight into tabloid hell. Tiger’s public confession of numerous affairs and a stint in rehab did little to repair his marriage or contain the damage.
What it cost: Does “everything” sound about right? For starters, his divorce from wife Elin reportedly cost Woods $100 million, two Florida homes, an apartment and $2.2 million estate in Sweden, plus physical custody of daughter, Sam, and son, Charlie. There’s also the $22 million in lost endorsement deals with Gatorade, AT&T and Accenture (though he retained Nike and Gillette).
Last but not least, there’s his golf game. In 2009, the last PGA tour before the scandal, Woods won six tournaments, earned $10.5 million and placed first in the FedExCup standings. The following year, he finished in the top 10 twice, earned $1.3 million and fell to 112th in the FedExCup standings.
Then again, with a net worth estimated at $500 million, Tiger won’t starve.

Sandra Bullock and Jesse James: Road Burned
The celebrity cheater: Reality TV star Jesse James.
The other woman: Tattoo model Michelle “Bombshell” McGee.
What was gained: Undue publicity for everyone involved. America’s sweetheart Sandra Bullock was blindsided and mortified by the news of her husband’s year-long affair with a tattoo model just days after receiving the best actress Oscar for “The Blind Side.” James and McGee cashed in on their 15 minutes, however; he with a tell-all book, “American Outlaw,” and she with numerous talk show turns and an Australian “Sexpo” tour.
What it cost: Would you believe nothing? Despite James’ attempt to save face by stating he would refuse spousal support (he is the CEO of West Coast Choppers after all), it really wasn’t necessary — by Texas law, you must be married 10 years to receive spousal support.
Maria Shriver to Arnold Schwarzenegger: ‘I Won’t be Back.’
The celebrity cheater: The former “Governator” and action hero.
The other woman: Longtime housekeeper Mildred Baena.
What was gained: The worst reviews of Schwarzenegger’s career. The world was shocked, not only that the former bodybuilder would have an affair and father a love child with Baena, but also that it would be his wife, Maria Shriver, who recognized the unmistakable resemblance in her housekeeper’s son and ended the charade.
Arnold, of course, gained a son, 14-year-old Joseph, who was born just five days after Shriver gave birth to the couple’s fourth and youngest child, Christopher, in 1997.
What it cost: Let’s call this a redistribution of wealth, shall we? According to Celebrity Net Worth, the Hollywood action hero-turned-governor is worth in the neighborhood of $300 million. Shriver, an Emmy Award-winning television journalist, has amassed around $100 million, also a very nice neighborhood.
It’s understood there was no prenup and because California is a community property state, most of the millions they’ve accumulated over a quarter-century together could be split 50-50, leaving Shriver with a settlement in the comfortable neighborhood of $200 million.
Baena says Schwarzenegger was “generous” to her following the birth of their secret son.

Shania Twain and Mutt Lange: Happy Endings
The celebrity cheater: Robert “Mutt” Lange, the Svengali-like music producer behind Shania Twain’s hits.
The other woman: Twain’s best friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud, who was Lange’s personal assistant and Swiss interpreter.
What was gained: A qualified happy ending. When Lange met Twain in 1993, he was a legendary rock producer (AC/DC, Bryan Adams, Def Leppard) and she was a Canadian country music novice 17 years his junior. They met, quickly married and moved to Switzerland. Together they produced three multiplatinum albums, including “Come on Over,” still the best-selling album by a female singer. They also had a son, Eja, in 2001.
Twain learned of her husband’s affair from the other woman’s husband, Swiss businessman Frederic Thiebaud, whom she later started dating. Following her 2010 divorce from Lange, Twain wed Frederic on New Year’s Day in Puerto Rico. It was Frederic who suggested she take Oprah Winfrey up on an offer to host her own reality TV show on the OWN network, “Why not? With Shania Twain.”
What it cost: While terms of their Swiss divorce remain sealed, there may have been a redistribution of the Twain-Lange empire, which Celebrity Net Worth estimates at $350 million for Twain and $225 million for Lange.

Robyn Gibson filed for divorce in April 2009, just months before the Oscar winner’s then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva

J Lo Divorce

Posted in Celebrity Divorce tagged at 12:58 pm by demetriagraves

Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez is divorcing her husband of seven years, Marc Anthony. The couple had dated briefly in the 1990s and then rekindled their romance in 2004. They were married in a secret ceremony at Lopez’s Beverly Hills home in June 2004. Lopez, 41, gave birth to the couple’s two children, twins Max and Emme, in February 2008. It was Lopez’s third marriage and the second for Anthony, 42.
The rumors and speculation have begun, but to Ms. Lopez’s credit, it appears she has handled the matter with dignity by reaching an out of court settlement prior to making any divorce plans public.  She sets a good example for those who are considering divorce. Many celebrities have come to realize how harmful an ugly divorce can be to their image and do everything possible to settle all personal details out of court.
These cases are typically handled quickly, and often cost much less in legal fees than divorces for the average person.  A divorce case in California is open to the public.  The court cannot seal records except in rare situations.  Detailed financial information and allegations about infidelity and the treatment of children, whether true or false, are made public for all to see when people use the court system to resolve their divorce.
The irony is that many of these high profile celebrities have found a way to resolve their cases privately and quietly but the rest of us as private citizens find it necessary to air out our lives noisily in the court of public opinion, costing in dollars and sense.

This is why it’s important to work with a family law attorney who is focused on settling matters quickly thus helping you make a fresh start and move on with your life as painlessly as possible.

Shriver Files For Divorce

Posted in Celebrity Divorce tagged at 2:16 pm by demetriagraves

Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s wife Maria Shriver, has filed divorce papers to end their 25-years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. It’s speculated that she could receive in excess of $250 million under the state law. Shriver is asking for spousal support and wants the judge to deny Arnold the right to ask for support for himself,  though it’s highly unlikely he would.

Shriver is asking for joint custody of their minor children, who she names in the document as 17-year-old “Patrick Arnold Shriver Schwarzenegger” and 13-year-old “Christopher Sargent Shriver Schwarzenegger.” Together Shriver and Schwarzenegger have four children. Their two daughters are adults.

In the petition, filed by Shriver’s attorney Laura Wasser, she is asking Arnold to pay the attorneys’ fees of both parties.  Schwarzenegger’s attorney is Bob Kaufman and divorce proceedings will be conducted by a private judge. Both attorneys have a history of handling high profile clients in a way that allows their privacy to remain intact. Once a settlement has been reached one of the attorneys will report to a court and tell the judge the agreement.

Wasser and Kaufman are said to work extremely well together, and have already made great headway in the settlement discussions. Arnold must formally file a response to Maria’s divorce petition within the next two months according to California law.

There are even rumours that Arnold Schwarzenegger plans to give his soon to be ex-wife a “very generous divorce settlement.” In fact, the settlement is said to include much more than what is required under California law.

Under California law, the assets accumulated during a marriage are to be split 50/50 in the case of divorce. However, according to sources, Schwarzenegger plans to give Shriver much more than that. The ‘Governator’ is said to be worth roughly $500-750 million. Arnold is said to be offering up such a generous settlement with Shriver being that he realizes how much he has put her through. He is aware that Shriver has been a devoted wife and mother, and realizes that no amount of money can make up for the public embarrassment and betrayal.
The wealth of Shriver, who’s an award winning television newscaster, is estimated at more than $1 million. She is also a member of America’s most famous political clan the Kennedys. Shriver and Schwarzenegger, married in 1986 and became one of the top U.S. power couples as it symbolized a rare union between politics and Hollywood. The couple weathered storms over the years and Maria became the pillar of her husband’s strength at every twist and turn and was instrumental in Schwarzenegger’s victory in election for the position of governor of California. Shriver even stood by her husband’s side as he ran for California’s governorship in 2003, even after there were reported accusations by several women that they had been groped by him. Schwarzenegger was elected twice to governorship.
However, the last few months their marriage showed signs of strain and after Arnold’s tenure as governor ended, he confessed to having fathered a child out of wedlock. Arnold said in May he had an affair with Mildred Baena, a longtime housekeeper for the family. The love child is now 13.

Neve Campbell Divorce Final

Posted in Celebrity Divorce tagged at 9:46 am by demetriagraves

Neve Campbell is now officially divorced from her husband of four years, British actor John Light. Campbell who quietly filed for divorce, last year has now been granted the official dissolution. Campbell cited “irreconcilable differences” in her divorce filing back in June. It looks like it has taken the former couple 11 months to come to a final agreement, they have submitted a confidential settlement on how their assets will be divided. The terms are unknown but Campbell wanted a judge to deny Light a spousal support. They have no children together, so this makes the split simpler.

Campbell and Light came to know each other on the set of indie film “Investigating Sex”. They tied the knot in Malibu in May 2007 after dating for about two years. Previously, the 37 year-old Canadian actor was married to actor Jeff Colt before they divorced in 1998.

Arnold is a “Baby Daddy”

Posted in Celebrity Divorce, Celebrity Paternity tagged , at 11:26 am by demetriagraves

According to latest news, Maria Shriver has hired a top divorce attorney, but hasn’t decided yet whether she wants to divorce Arnold Schwarzenegger. Details are emerging regarding the former California governor’s affair with his housekeeper, Mildred Patricia Baena and their teenage love child, plus new information is emerging about Schwarzenegger’s financial support for his 13-year-old out-of-wedlock son.
A birth certificate has surfaced showing the boy, was born in October 1997 – just a week after Shriver gave birth to their youngest son, Christopher. Baena got divorced less than a month later. Settlement papers reveal she claimed she and her husband had no children. Schwarzenegger has been supporting the teenager. He lives with his mother in a four bedroom home in Bakersfield, Calif.

The 50 year-old Baena who is originally from Guatemala retired from the Schwarzenegger household in January after working there for twenty years.

It’s assumed that Schwarzenegger reached an agreement with Baena. By which he paid her child support, he took care of her, potentially bought her a house, and in exchange, he got confidentiality. Child support is modifiable by a court in California. Baena could always go in and say, ‘The circumstances have changed, I need more money.’ She could also ask to get the confidentiality clause lifted. She could say, ‘All of this media is happening now, people are saying things about me that aren’t true. I need to respond,’ and she could ask the court to lift that. The court probably wouldn’t, but the court could change the child support at any time.

This scandal doesn’t seem to be affecting Schwarzenegger’s Hollywood comeback. He recently announced plans to play himself in an animated TV show called “The Governator” and is scheduled to begin filming this summer on “Cry Macho,” a film drama in which he would play a horse trainer. The former world bodybuilding champion is also in negotiations to reprise what is arguably his most popular role, as the relentless killer cyborg in the “Terminator” films. Many observers are amazed the former governor risked his political and film careers, and ultimately, his family.
As for Marie Shriver, if she goes forward with divorce, she would be entitled to 50 percent of the couple’s assets. California is a community property state. Unless there’s a pre-nup, she’s entitled to half of the assets that were accrued during the marriage. Shriver would get child support, as well as spousal support. Shriver would be entitled to spousal support because she gave up her career for him, she was a broadcast journalist. Marie and Arnold have four children together.

Charlie Sheen Divorce Final

Posted in Celebrity Divorce tagged at 7:40 am by demetriagraves

Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller are now officially divorced, after the papers were finalized recently. They’ve been living apart since Christmas 2009 and they were finally granted a divorce by an L.A. Superior Court judge. They filed for divorce in November 2010 after Sheen was arrested the previous Christmas over domestic abuse charges.

According to court documents, the former Two and a Half Men star will pay Mueller $55,000 per month in child support. It also stipulates that “under no circumstances shall the child support paid by Charlie for Bob and Max be less than the child support paid by Charlie to Denise Richards for Sam and Lola.”

Mueller, 33, also received a lump sum of $757,698.70, a 2009 Mercedes and $1.2 million for her share of the family home, which Sheen gets to keep. The two will split all profits earned from baby photos sold to the media, and Mueller waived her right to ever seek spousal support.

The former couple will share joint legal custody of the nearly two-year-old twins, with physical custody going to Mueller; Sheen, 45, was granted visitation rights three weekends a month. Sheen recently lost his bid for physical custody of the twins.
